Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More (2009)
Here's some folk from across the pond. This is London based folk-rock quartet's debut studio album. Professional reviews seem to either praise it or trash it. After listening to it for a while, I understand where some of the negativity comes from. It's good, but a lot of the instrumentals that come in during the songs sometimes feel almost excessive, using techniques that would be best left to the artists who have perfected them. It's close to being overproduced, but I still like it. If they stripped down some of their songs, I am sure there would be nothing positive reviews.
nme: 7/10
pitchfork: 2.1 (Although I feel differently, the reviewer does make a good point. Don't let the extremely low rating discourage you from missing out on a really good album, though)
allmusic: 3 stars
