The Roots - Undun (2011)

The Roots new album. Been pretty viral lately, and for good reason. Sick, sick, sick album, if you liked How I Got Over, you'll definitely like this. Good to see that the Roots are still writing while they're doing Late Night. Big props to Questlove & Black Thought, and the rest of the crew.

Apparently Questlove is pretty satisfied with the new album as well, he says in an interview for Adweek:
"I definitely feel like How I Got Over was our first record, and now Undun is our second album."
He refers to Undun as kind of a second sophomore effort.

On a side note, Questlove is opening a new line of food trucks selling, of all things, fried chicken.
"Food trucks are the new black. And I'm trying to prove that fried chicken is the new cupcakes."
Words of wisdom from Questlove.

What about fried chicken cupcakes?
Maybe it'll catch on.

Power to you Questlove..

Surfer Blood - Tarot Classics [EP] (2011)

Heyoooo. Sorry about the lack of activity on the blog. Decided to start posting things and writing again. Will follow up with more leaks and good album downloads and other random news. Keep checking back.

This is the latest EP released a few weeks ago by Florida natives Surfer Blood. Super reverb-y if you haven't heard them but it's got a great summer vibe and really bright surf-rockish melodies. 'I'm Not Ready' is a great song, catchy melody and definitely fits in with the same vibe heard from their early first LP, Astro Coast. 'Miranda' shows off their more harder rock roots, sounds maybe like a mix between "Weezer and Beach Boys" as Pitchfork puts it. Voyager Reprise and Drinking Problems have a kind of eerie, trance-like and comforting sound to them. Overall a short but solid EP from the still pretty young group of guys and I'm looking forward to their sophomore LP which hopefully will be done by 2012? They have some way of putting harmonies together and adding this to a shit-ton of reverb makes for great music to both chill to or get you pumped. Check out Astro Coast if you haven't listened to them before, or you can leave a comment and I'll provide a link.

Also if you get tired of the songs, the EP comes with a bunch of crazy remixes. Because its the fucking deluxe edition. Enjoy.

p.s they used to be called 'Jabroni Sandwich'

Bibio - Mind Bokeh (2011)

Bibio's breakthrough album, Ambivalence Avenue, thrust him into popularity with his amazing quality of combining hit roots of deep folk with electronic sampling and dj-ing. After this release had a great critical response, The Apple and the Tooth, his fifth full length, was released later that year with a dash of new songs and some great remixes of most of Ambivalence Avenue. Two years later, he completely redefines himself as an artist. Mind Bokeh, his sixth studio album, is describe as "a balance of the familiar and non familiar." As far as the meaning behind this goes, it is everything you would want from a Bibio album, but the extent of how far his musical ability goes is something that he still creates an entirely new sound. No matter what, you should listen to this album

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues (2011)

The second full length release by folk masterminds, Fleet Foxes. I'd say that on this album they are really just showing off how much talent they have as a group. Its awesome and thats all there is to it.

Is it bad that I keep forgetting that this still hasn't officially come out? The album leaked a while ago so just either just search through my mediafire uploads for it or find it yerself

Radiohead - The King of Limbs (2011)

Radiohead's newest album feels like a mashup between 3 separate earlier albums, and albums opener, Bloom, almost had me convinced it actually was. Even if I still thought so, I'd still say it is an awesome album. Its not as defining as their previous releases, but at this point I don't really know if they are capable of producing anything but greatness
